continually proving Thomas Wolfe wrong [readings/etc. in Philly]

Next week, I’ll be heading back to Philly for a few incredibly busy days, during which I’ll (hopefully) train PennSound’s new work-study, take in a Phillies-Brewers game with my mom, get my hair cut, and take part in two very exciting readings.

The first is Friday night’s URCHIN series reading honoring Ted Berrigan —I still can’t believe that I missed last month’s Mina Loy reading (due to moving and writing stresses), which looked like a marvelous event.  CAConrad’s new series, itself an outgrowth of his Neglectorino Project, gives folks the chance to share their favorite poems from various influential (and perhaps somewhat overlooked) poets.  I’m eager to see who else will be included in the project, and feel just a little depressed by the fact that I won’t be around to take part (however, I’m very grateful that he scheduled the Berrigan reading for when I’ll be in town).

Then, Saturday night at 8pm, I’ll be honored to read alongside Lewis Warsh  (who was a particularly friendly and helpful resource as I wrote my Berrigan/Warsh essay last month) and Brian Carpenter as part of the Chapter and Verse Reading Series at the Chapterhouse Cafe and Gallery (620 S. 9th St., Between South and Bainbridge Streets).  Come out to hear me read from Last Days in the Bomb Shelter and buy me a drink afterwards!
